Member Spotlight: The Townwide Fund

In 1961, a group of Huntington residents came together intending to help their neighbors in need. Their mission was to raise funds within the community to assist local charities. Fifty-nine years later, the Townwide Fund of Huntington has raised more than $12 million and continues to infuse local health and human service organizations with the support they need to help the residents of Huntington.

At the helm of the Townwide Fund is Alice Marie Rorke as the Executive Director. She is an astounding woman who not only dedicates her time to the Townwide Fund but is also passionate about helping the community. A past president of the Junior Welfare League of Huntington, Alice Marie spearheaded many key initiatives of the organization during her nearly 24-year tenure. Alice Marie has dedicated her career to philanthropy and helping those who are otherwise underserved. If the Townwide Fund is the umbrella that helps protect those in need, Alice Marie is the strong individual making sure the umbrella does not go astray in a storm.

Fundraising is not for the light-hearted and has been made especially difficult during Covid-19. Since the beginning of March, the Townwide Fund has shifted their focus knowing that now, more than ever, the community needed their support. Through various efforts, the Townwide Fund has been able to continue to support 35 charities and has also become a conduit to helping businesses advertise, too.

We recently sat down with Executive Director, Alice Marie, to learn more about the Townwide Fund and where they see their future pivoting to. From virtual outings to small in-person fundraisers, the Townwide Fund has become creative in their approach to raise money for those in the community who need it most.
