Sustainable Practices Committee Presentation with 511NYRideShare

On Wednesday August 19th the Huntington Township of Chamber of Commerce in partnership with their Sustainable Practices Committee hosted a virtual webinar with 511NYRideShare to discuss the importance of Bike Share programs.

511NY Rideshare is sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation to work with large and small employers, public and private agencies, property managers, and commuters throughout New York State to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and empower New Yorkers to make smart transportation choices.

511NY Rideshare members have reduced more than 166,194 tons of CO2 emissions by making sustainable travel choices. We provide access to data, resources and tools that help commuters make informed decisions about their transportation options and manage programs that assist organizations with strategy and customized solutions to meet their unique transportation needs.

Bike share programs have been appearing across the world, with popular programs in Toronto to New York City. In the communities where bike share programs are introduced, local businesses saw an uptick in business, specifically walk in customers.

As we all look to continue to lessen our carbon footprint and help our local economy, it’s important for local towns and municipalities to consider implementing bike share programs in highly populated communities. Not only will it lessen traffic and carbon emmission, but it also helps encourage people to shop local.
